In the ancient Greek world, ideal beauty was widely depicted. This ideal was valued not only in the posture, balance, harmony, symmetry, and proportion of form in statuary, but also in living human beings as well. This is a copy of the statue sculpted by the famous sculptor, Myron, in the 5th century BCE which is now lost to us today. The original is displayed in the British Museum in London.
